Typing Accuracy Tips

Accuracy is not the opposite of speed. It is the foundation that makes speed useful. A typist who produces clean text at 55 WPM often finishes faster than a typist who produces error-heavy text at 80 WPM and spends extra time correcting it.

Slow down by a deliberate amount

If your accuracy is below 95 percent, reduce your pace until errors mostly disappear. Do not slow down randomly; choose one comfortable speed and hold it for the whole passage. Once the error rate drops, raise the pace in small steps.

Watch the characters that break your flow

Most people repeat the same few mistakes: swapping i and o, missing a space, or dropping punctuation. After each session, look at your error count and the words where errors appeared.

Practice punctuation on purpose

The punctuation practice includes commas, semicolons, quotes, and colons inside ordinary sentences. Punctuation keys are farther from the home row and need a clean finger return, not a reach and a guess.
